Momo Taveri Racing Steering Wheel

Not part of the official series. Still real. And almost forgotten.

by Mads – June 13, 2022

Some wheels are documented.

Some are collectible.

And some sit somewhere in between –
real, but almost invisible.

Not part of the series

At first glance, this looks familiar.

Three spokes. Signature on the front. Classic Momo proportions.

It feels like one of the known signature wheels.

It isn’t.

A name that doesn’t show up

“Taveri Racing”

Not part of the official MOMO signature lineup.

Not listed. Not marketed. Not widely known.

And yet — it exists.

Built on something known

The base is unmistakable.

A Jackie Ickx-style wheel.

Same structure. Same proportions. Same production logic.
Plus the horn pad.

Only the surface changes:

A different name.
A different signature.
A different story.

Where it comes from

Late 1970s.

A personal request.

Edi Taveri — racing driver, connected, close enough to Gianpiero Moretti to ask for something specific.

Not a new design.
Not a development project.

Just a variation.

Something personal.

How it was made

No product launch.
No catalogue entry.
No branded packaging.

A small run.

Delivered quietly – to friends, partners, people around the business.

Most of them gone into private hands almost immediately.

What we actually know

Stamped November 1978.

Same base as other limited or special-purpose wheels from that time.

No unique construction.

No technical difference.

Only context.

Why it matters

Because it was never meant to be part of the story.

Which is exactly why it is.

Final Thought

Rarity alone doesn’t make something interesting.

But when rarity meets origin, story, and a path that was never continued —

you don’t get a collectible.

You get an endpoint.
