The VW & Audi Connection
Petri wasn’t just for BMW.
Many of us have unknowingly touched Petri wheels in European cars — from VW to Audi and beyond.
For enthusiasts, the story is simple:
- The classic 380mm foam Petri wheel appears in BMW, VW Passat TS, Scirocco TS, and even the Audi Fox GT.
- There was also a 400mm deep-dished variant, exclusively for Passat and Audi Fox GT.
At first glance, the steering wheel looks identical across brands. Functionally and visually, it’s the same Petri craftsmanship — only the hub differs (which we’ll cover separately).
Different Wheels, Same Philosophy
- 380mm flat Petri – standard option, lightweight, classic design
- 400mm deep-dished Petri – made for slightly deeper wheel arches, more commanding feel
Both versions carry the unmistakable Petri touch: quality foam, leather grain, and a minimalistic, purposeful look.
Black, chrome, or aluminum spokes — every variant has its fans.
Horn Buttons for VW & Audi
Just like BMW, VW and Audi Petri wheels came with their own horn buttons:
- Scirocco TS – bigger button, perfectly centered
- Passat TS – smaller, minimalist, like BMW’s
- Audi Fox GT – used the big Scirocco-style button
Horn buttons were never sold separately. For collectors, finding a full set is a real challenge — especially in original condition.
The Story Behind the Wheel
Petri made OEM steering wheels for dozens of European brands. For VW and Audi, they delivered:
- consistent design across models
- optional deep-dished variant for sportier feel
- rare black and chrome finishes
The wheel itself wasn’t a pure motorsport item — like BMW, it was designed for style, comfort, and a hint of sportiness. But in black or deep-dished form, it hints at purpose and function.
Collectors know: the wheel alone tells part of the story. Complete sets (wheel + hub + horn button) are museum-worthy.
